Baildon Walkers are Welcome

Do you enjoy walking and getting out into the local countryside?

Baildon Walkers are Welcome guided walks are all led by local people who are experienced walkers.

Walk leaders plan, test and risk assess walking routes in the run-up to the walk being offered to ensure the comfort, safety and enjoyment of the people taking part.

All volunteers take part in an 'Introduction to Walk Leader' training session before starting in their role.

Paul Robinson is a walk leader and also helps to deliver training:

"I have always enjoyed walking and so when I retired, and had time to volunteer, I looked to get involved with a local walking group. I found 'Baildon Walkers are Welcome' online and contacted them. Following a casual meeting in a local cafe with the Chair, Bob, who answered any questions I had, I was invited to the next committee meeting where I was warmly welcomed. I soon joined the committee and am now a walk leader and look after the equipment and publications (which comes with the grand title of 'quartermaster'!).

I also jointly deliver navigation (map and compass) sessions and leadership training to new walk leaders, and organise footpath surveys. We are so fortunate to have beautiful countryside to walk around in the Baildon area and all our walks are free to the public.

I enjoy volunteering with a lovely group of like-minded people who genuinely care about their local environment and promoting Baildon as a 'walking town'. As a volunteer you can always say 'no' and manage your time to fit in with your other obligations and hobbies. I feel appreciated by doing something which I enjoy, helping other people to get outdoors, meet new friends, and have a great day out (my walks always finish at a pub in the village!)."
