Love our Loos - Baildon Public Toilets on Northgate

Recent Improvements and Maintenance

Baildon Town Council is striving to continue improving and maintaining the Northgate Public Toilets. In early 2023, the refurbishment of the disabled toilets was completed and renovations for the gents toilets are currently underway and should be completed by mid 2023.

As you will be aware, the Northgate toilets have also suffered significant vandalism over recent years; an issue that remains ongoing. Please could we ask that if any instances of vandalism or damage are found, that Baildon Town Council be notified on 01274 593169 or enquiries@baildontowncouncil.gov.uk.

Loo of the year competition 2019 - Platinum Award

In 2019, Baildon Town Council was delighted to have won a PLATINUM AWARD in the 2019 search to find the best 'away from home' washrooms in the UK.
Our entry was in the unattended public toilets category.

Baildon Love our Loos is a group of volunteers who have worked very hard over recent years in support of Baildon Town Council, to not just keep the toilets open, but turn them into a unique community facility decorated with murals depicting the local countryside. The facilities are heavily used by groups such as Baildon Walkers are welcome, and also a myriad of mobile employees who can rely on an easy access and high standard facility when they are "on the road". Further improvements have been made over recent years including the 2023 disabled loo renovation.

The toilets are cleaned under contract by Reflections Cleaning company, based in Baildon, who do an excellent job. Baildon Town Council, together with the Love our Loos group, wish to thank Reflections for her dedication and thoroughness in keeping the loos in tip top condition.

Councillor Gill Dixon commented
"We are absolutely delighted with this well- deserved award. We receive regular feedback from users that these toilets are an absolute lifeline for many in the community who need easy and reliable access to a loo, whatever the time, to enable them to maintain their independence.
We also know that Baildon is a popular starting point for moorland walks, and our facility is essential for them.
For the second year, our Loos will be splendidly illuminated with a rooftop Christmas lights display, perfect if Santa needs a stopover on the busiest night of the year"

Re-opening of the Toilets by the Town Council in 2018

Baildon Town Council agreed in October 2017 to take the Baildon Public Toilets over from Bradford Council in April 2018, and received many letters of support. A 6 week usage survey in August of 2017 showed that an average of over 400 people a week used the loos.

Baildon Town Council have formally accepted a transfer of the public toilets, and are now fully responsible for the running and maintenance of the facility.

After an extensive improvement programme by the Town Council, including eye-catching murals painted by a local artist, the toilets were re-opened in May 2018 by the then Chairman of the Council, Peter Ashton (see picture).

Gill Dixon, Baildon Town Councillor, commented in May 2018:
"We are delighted that our loos have had a makeover over the past few weeks, and wish to thank all the volunteers and organisations who have helped, including Bradford Council, a local cleaning company, Bradford Community payback scheme, and our local artist who is transforming the interior from 30 April to 5th May".
